VEHICLE REGISTRATION TAX INCREASE

Spanish government is helping us greatly to overcome the current crisis situation...

This is why since the beginning of August the Tax Office (Hacienda) has INCREASED the level of the registration tax for foreign vehicles. This tax is called "emissions tax" as it is based on the level of emissions of the vehicle.

The highest tax level is now 16% of the value of the vehicle, when before it was 14.75%.

Emissions tax for Quads and Caravans also gone up from 14.75% to 16%.

The value of the vehicle is taken from the Tax Office tables.

There are some good news though - in the beginning of August the Ministry of Industry, Ministerio de Industria, have accepted new law regarding the ITV (MOT) of vehicles from outside European Union. This makes the registration process much easier and cheaper, allowing cars, that were impossible to register before, to get Spanish plates without any problem.
